Aspen EFDs – Known Issue Receiving XM Weather

Aspen1This memo is intended to provide background information regarding a known issue with displaying XM weather on Aspen EFD1000 and EFD500 (PFDs and MFDs).

Description:
The EFD software that interfaces with the XM weather receiver continually checks the age of the XM weather information it is receiving in order to ensure that the most current information is displayed; under normal operation when the information is updated, the software discards the expired weather data. The software issue causes all weather data to be treated as old data and prevents the EFD from loading any weather data to the displays.

Solution:
The software issue became evident on January 1, 2013. Since that time, our engineers have developed, tested and are working to release a software update, Main Application Processor (MAP) software v2.6.1 to correct this condition.

The software update will be available later this week. A separate notification will be sent when the Service Bulletin and software are available for download from the Service Bulletin section of the Aspen dealer website.

This upgrade is only required for Aspen EFDs interfaced to XM receivers.

Registered Aspen customers have been advised (attached) to contact their local Aspen authorized dealer to arrange having the new software version installed in your flight display(s).

There is no charge for this software and one hour of warranty labor will be reimbursed for customers that have an XM receiver installed, provided the dealer meets the warranty policy requirements and submits a warranty claim form through the dealer website.
